The writer has made a preliminary study of the establishment and management of the SPF laboratory animal centre.The new\|built centre is located in the laboratory buildnig of Guangxi Institute for Drug Control.Its building area is 485 m 2 with an estimate investment of RMB1.2 million for construction.There is the ornamental area of 250 m 2 for purifying equipment in it with an estimate investment of RMB 800000, and an engine room covering 35 m 2.The principle of design is to offer the centre with needed facilities include the breeding and rearing of the SPF laboratory animals.This essay mainly introduces the building of the centre, including its size,design,construction control and the selection of a energy\|saving air\|conditioning and well\|ventilated system.It also expresses our experience and learning from the construction.The facilities and equipments of the centre have been examined and accepted by related government departments,the performance parameters are all with the standards of SPF laboratory animal facility.The operation of the centre can reach the goals that save both energy and costs and is easy to manage.
